South Yorkshire Net Zero project

South Yorkshire is taking bold steps towards a sustainable future with the launch of the South Yorkshire Net Zero Project Pipeline. This ambitious initiative, valued at £2.6 billion in July 2024 and expected to grow in the coming months, features 33 innovative projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions as well as driving social and environmental outcomes and economic growth.

Key projects include domestic retrofitting, electric vehicle infrastructure, and a transformative £2.1 billion heat network. Led by 3Ci and Connected Places Catapult, in collaboration with four local authorities, the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and the private sector. This pipeline addresses investment barriers, fosters regional collaboration, provides technical assistance, and secures additional funding.

Kicking off London Climate Action Week with 3Ci and NatWest

We proudly hosted one of the first events of London Climate Action Week, focusing on enabling place-based Net Zero investment and bridging the gap between concept and action in city-based net zero initiatives.

Key takeaway: A more joined-up approach between national and sub-national governments is essential. A central strategy that effectively integrates and informs regional strategies will drive impactful progress.

While there's an abundance of finance and a strong appetite for green initiatives, the challenge remains in developing projects to the point of investibility. Innovative financial approaches need to be tested and sufficiently de-risked to attract institutional investors.
